CCTV.com reports that among the seven major scientific and technological achievements of China’s building materials industry in 2025, there is an innovative product closely related to the construction of good houses—an “ultra-cold cement” that can cool down on its own without electricity, and it also has strong fire resistance and pressure resistance.
During the test, the outdoor temperature where the reporter was located was approximately 20 degrees Celsius. The thermometer quickly rose to 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the slab coated with the “super-cool cement” material rapidly dropped to around 24 degrees Celsius. Although it is winter, the temperature difference between the two slabs exceeded ten degrees Celsius, demonstrating the excellent cooling effect of the “super-cool cement” material.
The “ultra-cold cement” material not only has a cooling function but also Class A fire resistance. The reporter aimed a spray gun at two different coatings; the ordinary coating on the left had already started to burn, while the “ultra-cold cement” coating on the right showed no signs of burning. After burning, the left side was still burning, while the right side showed no trace of fire.”
Super-cold cement” concrete has excellent compressive strength. During the compressive strength test, the screen shows pressure being continuously increased on the experimental concrete. At the moment the concrete explodes, the pressure exceeds 100 MPa.
Researchers explained that the special properties of “ultra-cold cement” stem from its high solar reflectivity (96.2%) and thermal emissivity (96%). Through a dual effect of “reflection + radiation,” it achieves continuous cooling without energy consumption. This material also possesses Class A fire resistance and high compressive strength, and can be widely used in building roofs, exterior walls, urban roads, grain silos, and cold chain storage, providing strong support for mitigating the urban heat island effect and reducing building energy consumption.
