The university and the enterprise join hands to deeply cultivate innovation. Alumni of Tongji University in Jiangxi Province explore together how Yinsan Newmaterials can empower the future of design.

On April 22, 2025, the Jiangxi Alumni Association of Tongji University organized over ten entrepreneurs in the design field to visit and exchange with Jiangxi Yinshan Supermaterials Technology Co., LTD. This visit was led by Zeng Shaopeng, the president of the alumni association, and included industry alumni from fields such as architectural planning and engineering management. It aimed to promote the in-depth integration of new materials technology and design practice, and to present practical innovative achievements to celebrate the 118th anniversary of Tongji University.

Yinshan Technology: Eight Years of Hard work, Forging an Industry Benchmark. The alumni association visited the Yinshan Technology Industrial Park located in the High-tech Zone of Nanchang. Wu Feilong, the founder of the company and an alumnus of the 2006 class of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tongji University, along with the core team, warmly welcomed them. Eight years ago, we started in a 300-square-meter laboratory. Now, we have become the only composite board enterprise in Jiangxi Province to be included in the “Green Building Materials Recommendation Catalogue” of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China.

Wu Feilong introduced the development history to the alumni. Relying on the technical support of the materials discipline of Tongji University, Yishan New Materials has overcome dozens of national patents. Among them, the technology for preparing translucent concrete has broken the foreign monopoly, and the products have been applied in many representative landmark projects such as the Shanghai Planetarium and the Xiongan City Living Room.

In the intelligent production workshop, the fully automatic CNC production line is manufacturing the latest developed ecological boards. Technicians from Yishan are demonstrating the material’s performance on the spot: This new technology can significantly increase the reuse rate of construction and decoration waste. Wu Feilong stated that the products of Yinshan have passed the LEED international green certification and have helped many large-scale domestic and international projects achieve carbon reduction and energy conservation.

Technology Empowerment: The “Material Language” of the Design Revolution Enters the product application exhibition hall, and the concrete curtain wall model constructed by Yinsan New Materials has sparked heated discussions. Traditional design is often limited by the properties of materials. Now we can achieve freedom of shape. Wu Feilong introduced that “Materials not only carry functions but also serve as the medium for design narratives.”

At the symposium, alumni entrepreneurs engaged in discussions based on the pain points of the industry. The heads of the architectural design companies attending the conference stated that the integration of new materials and traditional design processes is disrupting the industry ecosystem. “Yinshan’s modular solutions have significantly shortened the design implementation cycle.”

President Zeng Shaopeng emphasized that the significance of the alumni association platform lies in “enabling technological innovation to penetrate industry barriers”, and advocated that the attending entrepreneurs carry out in-depth cooperation.

At the end of the event “Alumni Gathering: The ‘Tongji Model’ of the Innovation Ecosystem”, all the visiting participants took a group photo in front of the Yinsan Technology Research and Development Center. The alumni attending the meeting held the blessing banner that read “Happy 118th Birthday, Tongji University” and expressed their deep affection for their Alma mater in unison. Wu Feilong recalled emotionally, “What I learned at Tongji was not only technology, but also the spirit of serving the country through engineering. This force has always driven Yinshan’s independent innovation.”

President Zeng Shaopeng concluded that this event not only strengthened the industrial connection among alumni but also injected “Tongji wisdom” into the transformation and upgrading of Jiangxi’s design industry. In the future, it will continue to promote cross-border collaboration and pay tribute to the Alma mater’s original aspiration of nurturing talents with technological innovation.

This visit to the enterprises of alumni Wu Feilong and Huang Shaowen was led by President Zeng Shaopeng of the Jiangxi Alumni Association of Tongji University. Alumni such as Executive Vice President and Secretary-General Wen Weiping, Vice Presidents Zhao Hui, Li Yifei, Wang Fei, Zhang Bin, Ai Guozhong, Guan Dawei, Deputy Secretary-General Chen Jinlian, and Supervisor Xu Zhengguo participated.
